Test drove a MkV GTI today finally

A 55 plate red GTI, just for testing purposes. I had just come from the Honda dealer across the road, drove a 58 Civic Tyoe R, I was like meh.

So I loved the Golf, but I havearound 16k to spend, and I want a silver/white/grey 3 door ED30. The rarest of all 3 colour/body/editions by the looks of things

I'd agree with that, certainly not slow after stage 1

Would you buy a higher miled R32 for the same monies e.g 06/39k or a 57 ED30 with 22k?

no to thre R32 for me. love the interior love the look, 4wd is a bonus, but big heavy engine that is expensive to tune. in the dry i think a stage 1 GTI will be equal to if not have the legs over the R32

Don't blame you for not getting the Type R mate, my brother has just had serious serious problems with his. He has taken it down to Honda 3 times saying there is something not right with the clutch etc and every time they have come back saying they cannot find anything, now he has taken it down this time and they have stripped his clutch saying it's completely destroyed and it's his fault so they won't pay out for it under warranty. The car is an 08 plate and done like 18k miles. They are trying to get him to cough up £750 for it! Apparently he isn't the only one having problems with there clutch!.

I have had my Gti for around 5 months now and love it, It just feels so solid, my next step is to go Revo also. I don't think you would be disappointed mate.

I've stripped most of the aftermarket parts off the Civic, then off to DVLA on Monday to get the private plate off etc, so i'll have a few weeks to get my car ready and sell it before I take hold of a GTI.

Most 30AEs are at least 200 miles away, let alone Grey 3 door ones. Does that seem a good buy? Ideally i'd prefer a 57 with lower miles but I don't want to drive for maybe 5 hours to see a car that has unmentioned issues.

I haven't driven a 30AE yet, sounds ideal though, bit firmer and nippier than the standard GTI.

Ed30's suspension is identical so no firmer than a normal gti

Wait for the right car is my advice.

I bought a 1000mile 3 month old Ed30 2 years ago (today in fact!). for just over 18K.  It was poverty spec though, wish i had waited for one with xenons/highline satnav etc.  Done something about that lot in the last 2 years..............................
