Clutch slip and remap

(1/1)

nigw:
I've just bought a Mk7 GTI to replace my trusty Mk5. It's recently had a Stage 2 remap - I notice that on the Superchips website they dont specify any upgrade requirements for a Stage 2 remap, but I've noticed a slight clutch slip...it runs away for about 500rpm for a few seconds and then catches.

I've booked the car in to get a new clutch fitted (and would rather stay OE), but am wondering whether it's just a function of the remap... and maybe the clutch itself would be ok if the car was put back to standard.

Is anyone else running Stage 1 or 2 remaps on a standard clutch? It would be handy to know whether the clutch is on its way out, or just that the standard clutch cant cope on these cars (I appreciate it will shorten the clutch life eitehr way).

Thanks

Very good timing NIGW as Pudding and I were discussing this over the weekend. If you google ‘RSR diy clutch’ you will find a number of the USA guys are using TTRS pressure plates with OEM / Sachs friction plates for an OEM solution on both mqb and pq35 cars.

New OEM clutch will slip eventually.... waste of time.

CL:
Just upgrade to a sachs performance one

pudding:
No don’t, they are crap.  As Colsey said, TTRS.  Oem pedal and 400+ lbft clamping.
