Yeah its all about the monies, i got mine about 1 year ago and paid £200 as it came with all the gps and speed settings and i hardwired it in myself from an empty fuse locaton that was ignition live with a step down for 5v feed very easy.
My insurance didnt go down but i made sure the camera was good enough to catch number plates.
1 thing i would say dont get hung up on the fps to much you want a higher resolution than anything as 60fps is no good unless you have 1080p or more as dash cameras have a very wide field of view so this makes the number plates very small and use a lot less pixels. ideally something with 1080p or higher at 60/80 fps would be good anything higher is a bonus.
People get confused about the whole fps thing as they think just because they are recording at 60fps higher they should catch the number plate easier. But the truth is yes you might catch the number plate as you have 60 frames and not say 30 but you wont be able to read it due to the low resolution. You are better off with have 1 frame of the number plate you can read in the higher resolution than 10 that are fuzzy and useless.
Alot of people get out of paying for crashes and bumps they cause because the video is to blurry.
Just have a good look around and check quality and make sure you get one that has been proven to have the qualty you need. 99% of Ebay and Amazon ones are crap be careful.
