following on from a manual 3dr Edition 30 (from new) see http://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/index.php/topic,6483.0.html

I still deeply love(d) my Edition 30 , it was modded to my spec, upcoming work was the cam chain (not belt) but these car run forever so 116,000 miles is nothing...

However I have always been looking (don't we all?) , mainly for a tempting Mk7 (7.5) performance pack lease deal , but laterly a Mk7 Clubsport , but in the end family (and a pending house extension) meant I had to peg my aspirations back a little.
Lots of Mk7 's to choose from, even R's but the theft/value aspect of newer car always bothered me.

And one day one of my ebay searches suggested a car a might like , namely an Edition 35..

When buying the Mk5 I chose Black , but had always swithered about Red, so preferred colour was red.
Must have options : heated seats / xenons
Would like to have : Sunroof
Not bothered about : Manual or DSG , Ive tried both , DSG seems better if you want to remap

needless to say in a very short time I had arranged to travel across the country to view the car.

Always liked the 3d gel plates (black not carbon effect) , so this is the first mod!

With it being warm weather, thought Id try using the sticky pads (supplied) this time around for a cleaner look. (normally have to revert to using fixings)

* old plates off.
* clean area underneath
* dry and apply polish
* stick new plates on , warming first with hairdryer
* apply low tack masking tape to hold plates on temporarily.

nice clean lines imo, may even have to think about a private plate.

in this weather transitioning from a/c on to off and back again was extremely smelly/musty !

£10 off eBay.  Get the charcoal version.
2 minute job, undo 2 spin clips, pull out and refit new. Can add a can of sanitiser (which also kills anything living in the air tubes) but I didnt bother.

Seems lots better. Result

In order to view fault codes, perform some 'tweaks' I reckoned it was time to finally buy a VAG-COM cable.
Options : Genuine VS Ebay Clone (which cannot be updated)
I chose to support the developers and I scanned ebay for a 2nd hand cable for VAG-COM VCDS.
Buying a new one would be £225 as is 3 VIN limited.
But the older versions also support my needs.
In the end I plumped for a Micro-CAN cable

Lots of info here http://www.ross-tech.com/vag-com/old-interfaces/uC.php

this supports everything I need for the 2012 Mk6 Edition 35 (short of Turbo mode).
All for £150

Downloaded VCDS 18.2 from below (running on a windows 10 laptop) , hooked up car and its all working..

horn confirmation was something I had enabled by a forum member way back in 2007 on my Edition 30 (that has just been sold)

So something I wanted to have back in the Edition 35.
This time I bought a genuine cable so I can play with VCDS for this car (see previous post)

The change was made via

Select
>09 Cent Elec
> Coding
> Long Coding

Arrow keys until it selects the right Byte, then toggle on
Locking Confirmation via horn active.

heres how it should look (not my actual car, just an example, ignore all other toggles/settings, leave them as they are)

Do It! , thats it, now enjoying knowing your car is locked without turning around

What I did find on my travels on the internet was that many articles were out of date.

* Module 46 although visible is not available (its been merged into 9)
This change was not possible through Adaptation, I had to do it through Long Coding path
