More Turbo>Intercooler Oil leaks

So.. I noticed some oil under the car, and thought the IC hose is leaking oil again.

It is but its the seal at the turbo outlet now. This is fine I can fix that. I'm more concerned with the amount of oil that's there, I know to expect some but its covered the drive shafts, Control arms, ARB, etc. I had the oil changed about 900miles ago and its gone from 4.7ltrs which was put in to in min mark on the dip stick. Has something gone wrong or is that normal.... I've not noticed any exhaust smoke

You can locate a good turbo muffler delete with a search which should allow traditional clamping there.

Oil is common but in tiny amounts. Best you can do is check both the PCV and rear breather. Test if the check valves operate properly. Next thing to test is the inner splash plate of the valve cover. It is known to separate at its seals for both the EVAP and PCV recycle channels built into it. I have my own discovery on my u2b channel @ Roh Echt; https://www.youtube.com/user/zoomdis/videos. With the valve cover removed...decide how you want to test if the two channels are still sealed from front to back as both channels recycle to the turbo inlet.

The valve cover was off about 6 weeks ago when I had the cam chain done. I wonder if that disturbed it and somehow aggravated the issue.

I did the dipstick removal PVC check and the engine ran lumpy so that's ok. Whereabouts will I find the check valve you mention?

It is likely the check valves are OK. If lots of oil is present, it may be caused more by the splash plate inside the valve cover no longer being sealed and oil excessively being lost when in boost. This is all dependent on the turbo being in good shape and not the cause of the oil leakage.

Older PCV's had both check valves inside the PCV...and the newer revision puts one in the PCV and the other just inside the rear breather tube at its top opening.

The check valves flow one direction and should seal when flow is the other direction. The tube from the intake manifold to the PCV should close under boost and open under vacuum. The rear tube opens under boost and closes under vacuum.

I'm pretty sure the PVC will all be ok, it's less than 18 months old. I'll pull the valve cover and have a look when I get a chance, hopefully, that's the problem and not to turbo

Soo I think my turbo is ok....

I was installing the new muffler and charge pipe when and noticed some oil higher up.

I decided to pull the cam cover off and found this mess



There is a build up of oil and gunk in there, probably melted cambelt mixed with oil. I'll know more tomorrow when I manage to get the cover off where it's coming from. Camshaft or crankshaft seal maybe... we'll see

So a bit more work on this today before the football

I've found a mystery object stuck at the bottom of the engine which it appears the belt has been rubbing on. I've not managed to get it out yet but it appears to be magnetic and has a threaded stud on the back of it. It's about the size of a watch battery. I'd guess its part of some kind of sensor. I think its come from higher up as it looks as if the water pump has taken a hit.

No clear signs of where the oil is coming from yet. You can see the build-up of shredded cambelt gunk.

I would be getting a new cam belt on that ASAP as well.....looks like 25% of the width is missing!

I cannot find it specified as anything functional or related...might have fallen off from somewhere, or something, else when a timing belt service was done in the past. Did you try sliding it out? It may have not been magnetic originally...but the constant belt rubbing may have energized it.

As far as the oil origin goes...follow it to its upward most point.

Nope, it's not supposed to be there.

It's still there at the mo I'm 99% certain I know what it is and how it got there, I need to speak to some people. I won't say any more for now but will update once its all resolved.

But it is where the oil is coming from...
