Highline comp
« on: February 11, 2010, 02:48:29 pm »
I currently have the pikey midline comp in my edition 30. Can anyone tell me how much roughly to change to the highline, also is it an easy task, how much do you have to change?

Cheers, craig.

I remember one of the other forumites got this done. The highline itself wasn't much but the labour killed it - to have things like mileage etc transferred over, you need to have it done by VW themselves. Or so I'm lead to believe.

The GTI isn't just a machine. It's very much a living, breathing thing.

I had highline installed.

the unit cost a lot the labour was half an hours. its so quick and easy for a good VW mech to do.

My car was that new that i couldnt put an older unit into my car without using VW.

i believe shark performance now have the gear to be able to do this

Thought it was you! But wasn't sure whether it was the labour or the unit that was expensive.

i bought a brand new unit from VW. i spent £470 quid on it, but i did it in a way whereas if it was the wrong unit, VW were liable for ordering the wrong part.

at the time, 1 year ago, it wasnt well documented about which units work and which dont!

Also recently had it fitted as well. Total cost £340.00.

A lot of money for what it is, but like others on here, I wanted it, so I did it.

As JPC said the problem is with the immobilsers and transfer of the mileage etc from one cluster to the other. You need the SKC (secret key code) to be able to do this. Darren has VAG Commander, which can read this code, but only upto (I believe 2006 model years). After that date, VAG changed the details on the clusters and after market software can't read the newer clusters, only the dealers (on in my case an independent) with the VAS tablet.

Cheers

Andrew
