New GTi Owner
« on: May 29, 2018, 11:26:29 am »
Hey everyone, just picked up my first GTi, its is a 2008 car in the steel grey colour (my favourite). The car is a three door manual with 92,000 miles and a leather interior.
I have already ordered a couple of bits including a new cam follower and will be checking the DV and PCV before putting proper miles on the car.
My only question is whether there is anything else that could affect engine power/reliability that you would recommend checking/changing before putting some miles under the wheels
Pictures to follow once I get a chance to wash it
Thanks
Jack

Welcome Jack

Sounds like a nice ride dude get some pics up when you can ;)

I would say check rear springs and dampers as seems to be a common thing

Check the high pressure fuel pump for the little cap inside hasnt worn through

Keep eye on the engine cover as they like to throw thereselfs into the fan

Oil cap if its standard OEM black cap change for a nice Audi R8 oil filler cap looks good and will stay on ;)

Could take sump off and check pick up pipe is clear unless you have paperwork saying its been done

Other than what your doing already cam chain and tensioner and DV, PCV enjoy dude

Loads of help and great people on here

Kris

P.s. if you get a chance to drive a DSG GTI do it there great fun

Hi Kris,

That's great thanks for the info.

Cam follower, along with rear shocks and springs already on the way, then straight out for the alignment.
R8 oil filler cap sounds neat, I'll keep my eye out for one and may check the pick up in the sump once I have got some money again, this car will bankrupt me haha.

Great advice by Kris on the oil pick up pipe in the sump, I wrote an engine off because of this very reason, very expesnive problem for a very simple issue, less than £20  or the pipe!

GET IT CHECKED!!

GTI looks nice (I am biased for the colour) :-)
