Another Newbie
« on: February 11, 2010, 08:19:46 pm »
Howdy All,

Just a quickie sign-on here. Joined the GTi club this year after toying with the idea for a while. Got myself a white '08 3-dr Ed30 DSG from a main stealer - very impressed so far. Wasn't sure about the colour when I stumped up the readies but it's really, really  grown on me and reading on here they do seem to be quite sought after. Car is standard but with iPod dock and lux pack.

Past car history has included mainly Impreza's (when they were cool i.e. the original was in production and had a year plus waiting list) and BM's. This isn't my first VW though. All have to be at least 200BHP or they aren't around long ;-)

Q: car sometimes seem to "bounce" when setting of steady or crawling in traffic. Is this a "feature" or a problem? Had traditional autos' or manuals before so I'm not sure if it's a DSG related quirk.

Welcome chap  :happy2:

If its a DSG car, and its kinda Kangaroo'ing in slow moving traffic or for long periods, you may have the start of a failing DSG mechatronics unit.(Gearbox ECU)or like someone that has bad clutch control ( like myself that has been witnessed  :ashamed:) May also give you not so smooth changes in 1st to 2nd or taking ages to select reverse.

Dealer visit for replacement, its nearly 4 digit price tag for repair without warranty.

Welcome Jase

As Mr Mcavity says , get it checked out. I had a similar issue with my TDI DSG and had the mechatronics unit replaced.
Golf R gone.
