Hey guys..

So, since I'm not able to have a bracket done by Vagbremtechnic they will be strong enough to hold for the pressure and stress they will have on them I have to swap back from alloy hubs to original steel mk5 hubs.

I'm not able to use my alloy hub ball joints on the steel hubs right? Also - I should not have a problem with alloy wishbones working with the steel hubs right, or do I also have to swap these back to original steel mk5 ones?

What do you guys think of the Superpro ball joints?

You can use the same ball joints. Even the nuts are the same, IIRC. Just the nut that fixes the ball joint to the alloy hub and the nut that fixes the steering arm ball joint to the hub are different.

You can fit SuperPro ball joints but for the increased negative camber, not due to compatibility issues.

+1 on the SP balljoints, not only for increased camber but also to correct roll centre with lowered suspension. I have them on my car with steel hubs / alloy arms though they would need a flanged upper nut for use on alloy hubs.

They have a washer which should make the same function as a flanged upper nut, no?

Not 100% sure of thicknesses of flange nut v nut plus washer and how much thread is left. I followed Kev's instructions and bought the oem flange nuts for my future project lol

Well, I had the flanged nuts but fitted the ball joints with what they came with. There's plenty of thread on the bolts and the SP ball joint part number for the mk5 Golf is the same as the S3 8P and Cupra 1P, which have alloy hubs. On the fitting instructions you don't see the washer, so I'm guessing that it's just needed for the alloy hubs.

You can use any BJ on the steel hubs with a GTI nut. Passat and SP BJs lower the wishbone (outboard end) approx 5mm compared to GTI, so these are recommended for lowered GTIs.

If using alloy hubs, you MUST use the passat specific nuts for the BJ and tie rod.  If you use GTI nuts, the steel inserts in the alloy hub will pull out.

Thanks guys.

Guess I'll just use the genuine ball joints for now, since these are not even a year old. I will just order the right nut for the mk5 steel hubs then :)
