Dip stick tube replacement?

Like the title suggests does anyone know how to change the dipstick tube on their ed30? I've tried roughing it but it's on there tight and don't want to damage whatever it joins on to...metal tube in the block?

I'm thinking the knocking out from inside the sump is the only way after a bit of research...just want to know if anyone has done this another way?

But you do have, as far as i remember 3 bolts to loosen off before the dipstick tube can be removed.

Then the tube should be removable.

Lol cheers yeah iv had a nosey on YouTube no joy unfortunately... it's only one screw securing the top end which is simple...its the push on part that's tight won't pull straight off

You mean the plastic part at the top, or the whole tube?

If the latter, it's just a light press fit into the block.  It might need twisting whilst pulling on it with some grips.   Unusual to replace the whole tube though, what's up with yours?

The latest craze on TFSI Tuning - Dipsticks! People realising the orange ones have fallen to bits, replacing with the newer yellow one, and getting the matching tube to go with it

I’ve just replaced the dipstick. The tube is fine.

Yes take the bolt out and brute force twisting and wiggling, its just an o ring holding it in there, i removed mine when cleaning out the intake manifold.

Been overseas so not had a chance to really look into it...but yeah the full tube.

It's solid I have gave it a bit of force but stopped because I wasn't sure what it went on to.. I see it's just a push on just don't want to break what it pushes on to if that makes sense.

The gain (to me) is that the new style yellow ones look fresher for pennies more like the mk7 engine bay.. I'm planning on fitting a Tts cover that I'm customising/painting to keep it OEM'ish since I have this crappy VWR intake on now.

I bought the yellow stick and tube together so Im rocking yellow stick with orange tube at the moment since I needed a new stick anyway due to the o'seal..looks daft

I did the same as you, bought the yellow stick and the yellow plastic tube it clips into.  The old orange one just pulled off the steel tube easily.  I didn't need to replace the entire steel tube just to fit the yellow part.  Replacing the steel tube isn't, or shouldn't be at least, a big mission though if you need to do that!    When you bought the yellow plastics, did they give you a new steel tube as well then?

Yes the tube seems pretty solid as in the plastic on it won't come off easily...I haven't forced it yet still not got round to it tbh....hows your looking?

I did mine 3 or 4 years ago.  You could try breaking the old plastic bit off with some pliers, or get a junior hacksaw on one side of it then bust it the rest of the way off?

The car is not really used at the moment I've got a unit to work from for a week so I'm hitting if for everything...timing belt, cam chain tensioner and cleaning my inlet so I will just change the full tube when it's in bits.

Side note my new wings and front end getting a spray (not by me) to freshen it a bit...will post some pics when it's done...on my own thread obv.

I did this recently as my tube had a broken mount and the dipstick its self was starting to crack.
Take dipstick out
Undo bolt holding tube to inlet manifold
Pull and twist on the tube to remove
Smear a dab on engine oil on the new tube seal and new dipstick seal
Push new tube on
Do up the bolt holding it to the inlet
Put new dipstick in.

To make life easy, cut the top off the old dipstick and remove the old tube sliding over the dipstick. The old dipstick will then help relocate the new tube as it can be fiddley.

WARNING
Make sure the old dipstick does not fall down into the engine.

Cheers mate, I will be stripping it when I've got a shot of a unit...nice idea with the dipstick to relocate if I wasn't stripping tho.

I also didnt get a new o'seal when I got the kit so I will need to order that if I can find the part number.
