Mk7.5 heated seats in a Mk5?
« on: August 12, 2018, 03:46:49 pm »
Hi

Now that I am about to start my Mk5 journey with the car being picked up at the start of next month thoughts are turning to upgrades. First is seats.

The car I am getting has only got 40,000 miles under its belt. The Leather on the drivers bolsters need restoring but in honesty I am not a huge fan of leather in a GTI. So the idea is rip these out and sell them and buy some heated tartan seats instead. I have spotted some 7.5 seats that would do the job and from browsing the forum the fronts and backs should be plug and play? Is this correct?

Assuming that is all okay -

I am also wondering if the wiring will cause me any problems? I will have to replace the heating controls as the car doesn't have heated seats yet. Will I need any different plugs or adapters to get the things working?

Many thanks for any assistance that is given - mechanically I am useless so need lots of help!

Mk7 rear seats will not fit the mk5 that's for sure.

Mk5 and Mk6 are all interchangeable since they have same platform. I've installed mk6 dashboard, pillar trim and headliner in my mk5.

Also I'm not sure the mk7 seats is a direct fit to the mk5. Pretty sure you'll have to get some connectors and re-pin wires for seats

Thanks Chris

That's a pain. Okay - time to start looking for some unmolested Mk5 seats then!

Yeah I might swap to Mk6 cloth.  The driver’s seat in my ED30 is knackered and you can’t buy a complete seat from VW.

Mk7 front seats bolt right in, but the rest of the interior will look incoherent because the rears don’t fit without a lot of faffing about.

The mk5/6 front seats look a lot better I think. I prefer how the head rest sits on them compared to the mk7.

40,000 Miles and they need restoring?  :sad1:

I have a mk5 with triple that milage and the seats are in good condition.

I also have a mint set of 5 door mk6 black leather 'R' seats with under trays and door cards in the garage loft, which I bought just incase.
Although may be tempted to let them go....

Sounds interesting ! What sort of cost would I be looking at? Condition? Could be tempted. Sadly I can't get PMs yet here (I wanted a car on here a while back but could PM the seller!).

Ahh... you need another three posts.....  :driver:

Condition is mint, and I mean like new.
Have stored the past 8 months in a dry garage second floor area.

Problem is I wouldn't split, the under tray draws fetch £100 alone.
then with the full rear seats, front heated 'R' seats & all leather door cards.... guessing around £700ish

I need to see what others have sold for & list properly, when I have time   :pomppomp:

Pretty good price for all that if it's Mentos chewy mint condition.
