Clicking from auxiliary belt area
« on: August 10, 2018, 11:04:53 pm »
Hi There

Wondered if anyone could shine a light on a potential problem.
I seem to have an intermittent fairly loud clicking noise from the auxiliary belt area. Its not audible from inside the car.
I thought it might be coming from the carbon canister area which i hear is a common occurrence but it sounds like its coming more towards the engine area. I scanned and I do have a P0441 code linked to an incorrect flow of the EVAP system.
I was also concerned it may be from the Cambelt which is nearby but this was changed last year with only a few thousand miles since.

Any other ideas on what to look for as im a bit worried this may lead to something big. Not sure if its in my imagination but it does feel like its running rough sligthly. It seems to click usually on idle after ignition or after a run.

Probably your tensioner, but could be your AC compressor or Alternator clutch. But you might want to check over the cambelt and its running gear.

Just take the auxiliary belt off to see if the sound is coming from that or any of it's related parts. It's easy to do. On the tensioner there is a squarish (is that even a word?) boss that you can put a spanner on on in order to move the tensioner to relax the tension on the belt to remove it. There is also hole in the tensioner that allows you put something (a 4mm Allen key works well from memory) though it into a corresponding hole in the engine to hold it out of the way.

I think I may have found the problem, correct me if im wrong - I have rescanned and discovered the code P0441 is described as Tensioning Bow Raised position switch (F204) This was using a different scanner.

Im not sure what that means but sounds like it may be related to the auxiliary tensioner which would seem to fit the problem.
