Service due on my GTI - What needs to be done?
« on: February 05, 2010, 10:33:08 pm »
Well lads, my 4 year old GTI is due a service. There is 67,700 kms on it (42,000 miles) and it is exactly 4 years old as of this month. I would appreciate it if you could have a look at her history, and let me know what you think needs to be done this time round. The reason being is that I intend on ringing several VW garages tomorrow looking for a quote, so I would like to have an idea of what needs to be done!!

Well guys.....any kind suggestions??

I have 68k kms on her now, and a service was due at 67,200. This is mainly due to inept service departments forgetting to get back to me to confirm quotes/dates.

I was getting mixed opinions when speaking to them though regarding what they think should be done. Some mentioned that I should get the sparks done, while others said that they don't need to be done until 90k kms (60k miles), so I should include them in my major service next year when cam belt will be done too??

Garage I am leaning towards have quoted me €199 for major service which includes standard oil/interval, as well as changing pollen and air filters. May go with this as they have a v good rep around too.

Any suggestions regarding the sparks lads?

I'm leaning towards getting the sparks done on this service. I think I'd rather space out what needs to be done, as opposed to having a monster next year. Plus I'd imagine the car would drive better after new sparks anyway.
