Need help,won’t go above 20mph
« on: October 18, 2018, 05:47:35 pm »
Hello a few weeks ago I was driving to work and all of a sudden my gti felt like the engine cut out,but it wasent it just won’t go above 20mph or 3k revs.
I took it to one garage and they scanned it and said throttle body so I’ve now changed that, but it’s still exactly the same.
So the other day I got a freind out who used to specialise in vags and he had look on vagcom and checked a few things,he tested the throttle body(new and old)and the throttle pedal wouldent open it,he did say the pedal is fine tho.
In the end he said it must be a broken wire somewhere from under the battery to the tb,but it’s not by the plug like normal,he said he’s getting voltage up there but no earth and something els.
Question is do I just strip it all back and hope he’s right as I hate wireing so really don’t wont to do it,has anyone els had it?these are my codes

It does sound like a broken wire, or a wire that's chaffed and shorting to the engine.   Have a look at the loom just under the vacuum pump.  I noticed when I did a chain replacement that the outer casing for that loom had worn through where it rubs on the vacuum pump.

Bit of a revival here for this thread. Im currently looking a 2005 mk5 GTI with this exact problem and throttle body codes showing. Did you change the loom to the throttle body or just unwrap and clean up the wiring.
The code ive gotten are :
Fault in basic settings P1559 not a plausable signal~intermittent
Angle sensor 2 for throttle P0221 not a plausable signal
Im 90% going to take the car as its well optioned and has a flawless service history id just like to know exactly whats up so i can get the parts in advance.
any help would be appreciated.
