Any ideas how to remove my vinyl?
« on: February 14, 2010, 09:14:52 am »
I'm guessing that it just requires a bit of heat and then it will progressively peel off. Then I'll just need a bit of polish to get rid of the residue.

Anything else I should know??

Cheers!  :happy2:

Not sure polish will shift the residue.  If it doesn't use some WD40 or similar and that will soften the residue.  Will have to degrease and polish after though.

Heat is your friend when removing vinyl.

Pull gently at 180 degrees, ie pull it right back over itself, and slowly.

Chris,
Boil the kettle and soak s sponge in the hot water, place the sponge over the vinyl for a few seconds and it will soften the adhesive. I used the edge of a credit card flush with the body work to lift a corner and then slowly peel.

Wouldn't heating using a hair drier be less messy?

Stand at approximately 40 degrees to the car with a peacocks feather stuck to the back of your jeans, then shout taddaaaa 3 times, and it should come off with ease!    :happy2:

no worries mate, usually used for vinyls that have been on vehicles for quite a while, s'only a little pump spray - very handy stuff when youre tackling aged vinyl or on an area such as the bonnet which has heat transfer to the glue and can make it quite brittle when you peel

hopefully you'll just get away with a good wash  - run the engine to warm the bonnet... and avoid petrol/wd40 over such a large area  if you plan to use it :happy2:

Prepare the surface with something like a domestic iron, then rip it off as quickly as you can to avoid any damage to the bonnet!
