Please help me value my GTI

Hi guys,

Had my Mk5 GTI Golf serviced at the weekend and the garage found a few things that need sorting and as im buying a house I can't afford to spend the money unfortunately so I am wanting to sell but have no idea what my car is worth. Im wondering if you guys could help me...

So it's a Tornado Red 2005 GTI Golf Mk5 with 147000 miles on the clock.
It has all the usual stuff plus...
18" Monza Alloys (quite scuffed)
Highline MFD
RCD 510 cd player
It has an Rtech Remap to 250bhp
Full service history at a very good independent VW specialist.

It has some paint pealing off the rear bumper on one corner (plastic part of the bumper) and the rest of the paintwork is pretty decent).
It only has one key and no parcel shelf.
It has a slight misfire on cylinder 3 only under load however there is no misfire doing usual driving and this is due to injector needing replacing.
The Aircon doesn't work due to suspected leak.
The Nearside rear spring is broken.
The Cambelt is due to be done from now.
It has 4 months MOT.

whoever would buy this would have to be prepared to get their hands dirty and there are loads of mk5s on eBay like this so.i don't think you're in a strong position.

bit of a mix with the history yet it also sounds unloved.

I'd either fit a new spring or throw one in with car. I'd also get a parcel shelf, they are two cheap things to sort.

When I first purchased the car 7 years ago it was previously a company car and they got rid of it when it needed a huge amount of things doing to it so it ended up costing me thousands to put everything right and it has run beautifully since. So I have loved this car it's just after all I have spent on it I haven't had the extra money to then get a parcel shelf and sort out the paint work and an extra key.

In your honest opinion would you get the spring fixed and just live with the misfire until the car finally gives up or would you cut your losses and get rid of the car and let someone else sort it out who has the skills or money to do it?

Sounds like a heap of trouble.

I've spent the best part of £3,000 getting mine to A1 and it wasn't half as bad as yours (although rear spring was broken despite passing MOT at main dealer!). So factoring in the mileage you may get £1500-£2000 but it would be a brave person to take it on, esp with the misfire.

This really all depends on whether your willing to spend the cash.

I wouldn’t buy this for a lot of money myself, as others have said. Mk5’s are two a penny in that state and the cost of putting this right after the cost of buying would make this a costly buy. 

To many people do this past cars on that need to much work. Look after it and it will after you.

Get it MOT'd as without one it's a lot less valuable/desirable would be my advice.

Keep it and repair the bits that need doing as and when you can. Not worth selling in its current state as you wouldn’t get enough to get a better replacement.

I think that's what in going to do. Im gonna get the spring replaced as that's a cheap job and then just see how the car runs over the next 6 months.

I also found out too that the low pressure fuel pump is also at max load cycle which I have no idea what that means but apparently it also needs changing. With the fuel pump, the Cambelt and water pump, new injector, that's all gonna cost over a grand with just these things. Apparently the rear bushes are very worn too! Its all just come at once !
