Quantum Platinum 5W40 - popup bottles 1ltr
« on: November 19, 2018, 06:20:57 pm »
My GTi had its 110K (107,000). mile service carried out at a VAG specialist and this time they put in this oil rather than Castrol 5w40 that I usually have. I am fine with that, but where can I buy top up bottles from (1tr)?

But in the meantime I have 1 and a half bottles of Castrol 1ltr topup oil and I am not sure what to do with it, as I don't really like mixing oil brands (although I did read on here that Quantum and Castrol is the same??).

I usually buy from Opie Oils, but they don't appear to stock Quantum?

Any help/pointing in the right direction would be great :happy2:

I really wouldn't worry about mixing the oils, I don't think I've ever seen 1 litre bottles of quantum oil, I've just refilled a castrol 1 litre bottle to keep in the boot. VW dealers are probably the easiest place to buy it from but pricey, I recently ordered 4x5 litre bottles off eBay for £88 delivered.

Try using your friendly Tps branch as they do special deals on oil now and again and if you belong to a car club you can get 10% off

Ebay - its only 20 quid for 5 litres, just decant into a 1l bottle a lot of the sellers are VW dealers. Or I am sure the garage that did the service will be happy to sell it to you for probably more...

Hi Darren,

It is fine to mix oil brands, when it comes to your MK5 it is all driven by spec, so as long as you stick to a reputable brand and keep to the right spec all will be good so fine to top up with your Castrol.

The Quantum is now made by Fuchs and is just rebranded fuchs product so you can also get it that way https://www.opieoils.co.uk/c-1795-fuchs-engine-oil.aspx

Cheers,
