OBD CODE
« on: November 28, 2018, 10:14:07 pm »
Hi guys, looking to potentially purchase a 2005 MK5 GTI. Revo Remapped 300bhp with decatted custom exhaust.

I’m in London, car is in Manchester. Told owner to tell me any faults as I don’t want to travel up and find out.

Guy told me the following code comes up: “P0010 - A Camshaft Position Actuator Circuit (Bank 1)”

Is this a serious issue? Guy said it’s because of the remap and decat.

Hi, I had the exact code on my GTI a while back. the connector plug to the VVT cam adjuster was broken. (they break easy) luckily it was easy enough to remove my sensor and repair it. its now all sorted.

If you do decide to go view the car.. check the connector plug and if its all solid.. check the wiring that leaves the plug... if all looks ok and you still want to purchase the car... you will need to look at replacing the sensor (flee bay will set you back less that £20 for a new one, albeit aftermarket)

If the sensor has flagged up because there is genuinely an issue.. then it may be a case that you need to carry out the cam chain & tensioner job... cam adjuster etc. which will be expensive.

what mileage is the car? find out if they have already had the job done... but do bare this in mind.

It’s on 127k and owner said cam follower, pick up pipe, fuel pump and sensors and cam chain were changed at 121k and he has receipts for most of the work.

Decision is yours, my experience on that code was a broken sensor connector. Hopefully it’ll be the same issue as that car. More than likely as it’s very easy to brake when taking the chain housing off!
