What are you paying for servicing?
« on: November 23, 2018, 09:34:35 pm »
I've always gone to the dealer, for mine, but latest quote for the 20k service is £375!

Local independent want £275, another further away want £235.

The one further away has a better rep / been round longer but I can't get to them without loads of hassle.

What are you paying at a reputable garage?

My dealer price matches services from any local independent garage within I think it’s 5 miles but remember with a dealer you get 2 yrs warranty rather than 12 mths from an indie

Sounds about right for the dealer.  They're at £549 for a cambelt + Water pump change now as well.  The last time I got the belt done at VW (2014) it cost £349!  The cost of living ever increases.

Mine's at 126K now and the service book is full (£15 for a new one!), so now I don't bother with dealers for servicing or belts.  I do them myself.   Past 100K FSH is less important, so long as you keep the parts receipts.

Bear in mind the major service can be a biggie, depending on mileage.  Spark plugs, fuel filter, cabin filter etc bump up the cost.   They are also supposed to give it a full inspection and grease all the hinges etc.  Make sure they've done all this if paying that much for a service.  Or do it all yourself for a fraction of the cost

  I've gained a couple added extras over the years from dealer servicing as well.  A 13mm Snap-On spanner left on the rain tray was a welcome addition to my toolbox!

My last cambelt was a lot less than that from VW.

Like pudding my car has over 100k on it, so paying dealer prices doesn't make sense.

Anyway thanks, it's getting done Monday.
