wow thats mad that it can go after 7k  :surprised:

im hoping to save my pennies and get a diff too, sounds a bit hairy though. saying that robin has had his on for donkeys with no problameos, maybe you have just been unlucky dave. i take it that the diff was all good up until 7k? ?

when taking up the drive, you would get a clunk through the pedal.  Not good.  I noticed almost immediately, but had to eradicate all other possibilities (was it a normal trait of the diff?, worn mounts, worn DMF).  According to some web reviews Quaife's are the dog's, I am not so sure now, but willing to be proven wrong.

But as ever pay's your money...................  Good job Quaife have a lifetime warranty.  The rest of the box is still spanking, and although the diff is bust it has not created any debris, so all good there.  It sounds like a machining error...........

what brand of diff if i may ask??

Quaife.

Please bear in mind that my car is not mapped at all 17K old, and the condition of the diff was apparently shocking.  I must also say that VWR have not buried their head at all, and have worked with me to get this sorted, a lot more than other companies have reportedly done on the forum.

I am driving a loaner MK6, after requesting a car apart from the red Mk5, and actually like the undramatic way it munches miles, and is comfortable, but get rid of the Ed, not yet.  I could have kept this quiet, but I am happy to post my experiences on the site.   Brand new diff being fitted.

Hi Dave, hope you get it sorted :happy2:

I'm sure it will just be a machining error. Quaife with a reputation like they have, haven't got there by selling dodgy diffs.

Doesn't sound like the "Red Temptress" is as tempting as she once was eh!

I don't have good or bad books, just prefer to give open and honest reports on my experiences.  i will be adding a post to the quaife review on this site, to give my experiences and add balance to the review.

like your style  :happy2: thanks for sharing.
thats a real pain having to go through that, but a result nonetheless.
surprised Quaifes QC didnt catch it if it was that bad, but as Hurdy says their reputation preceeds them (in a good way) so it does seem unusual.
did you not fancy having a replacement put back in? or just fed up and wanted to move on?

thank you for the kind words, i believe in open and honest reporting, i am not tied to any manufacturer, so why not.  i also have worked hard with VWR and must say that my recent experiences are way better than the early days.

So open and honest has worked to help all in this case.  Hence my addition to the review posted on this site when all is sorted.

All is well that ends well - Good news you got it sorted.

As others have said, I've had no problems with my DSG version Quaife (so far!) but every manufacturer or company can produce a wrong'un once in a while and using a company such as VWR gives great peace of mind because you know they'll do all they can to help you. The concern gets more serious if a company produces a wrong'un more often.

Robin,

Using a company such as VWR created problems, I am sure you are aware of those.  Please do not cloud the issue, being open here, not all was rosy.  They created problems by not fitting bracketry etc.  But things are a whole lot better it would seem now and I am grateful for the time and dedication shown by Matt.

....Naturally I'm sorry that that has been your experience. However, my experience has been the opposite. It is right that we each share our experiences, be they different or otherwise.

well a brand new Quaife diff has sorted the problem.  The old one was shocking. i have a video of the play found, and will upload it tonight.

the car is a different car to drive, no more clunking, no more vague feeling as the diff decided what it wanted to do.

All is good with the gearbox.
