I will ask the sellers beforehand about the ecu check.

I am interested in one of the ed30's for sale.

Is it common that the mileage on these is much less than the normal mk5 gti's.

Have seen an 07 one with 75k miles and 3 previous owners.

Also does checking the ecu also identify any mileage clocking?

Thanks.

Thanks guys I will check them both aswell. One of the ones I am interested in the seller is claiming that VW have replaced the engine on it would that be considered a good thing or bad depending on why the engine broke?

Not necessarily a problem. I recently had mine replaced. At 152k miles my oil pump went then about 2 weeks later the engine locked. We never did fully diagnose the problem but suspect possible oil passing through from the turbo which probably had damage from the oil pump fail. Anyway, just make sure you know at least the source of the new engine. I managed to source a 2009 BWA with 50K on it for £800 for everything including turbo etc. Came from a Golf EOS that had been owned from new by an elderly couple. It's insanely smooth, had clutch etc done while it was out.

Basically just check the history.
