Hi, I’m a new member and would like some advice please:
I am giving back my mk7 gti company car and going to buy a low mileage mk5 as I loved having that model previously and I’m only doing 5K miles a year now and don’t see the point of having a CC now. Ive found a low mileage 3 door car, all OK, reasonable value at £5.5K with some advisories around suspension corrosion and ball joint play, I was going to replace it anyway with AP coil overs as I want to drop it 25mm. Do I still go ahead and buy or do I walk away. Some advice would be greatly appreciated, I’ve checked everything else, no sill issues, arches all ok, AC compressor seems good.
Steve

They are getting to the age where suspension corrosion will be quite common, if you are giving the components a full overhaul then I wouldn't worry too much. Ball joints are cheap enough too.

I know the Passat B6 alloy control arms are interchangeable but does anyone know if the rest of the front suspensions are also interchangeable - seen new on the bay (https://rover.ebay.com/rover/0/0/0?mpre=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.ebay.co.uk%2Fulk%2Fitm%2F231478362177) for what is pretty reasonable but not sure of figment and also if the quality of the Passat rubber bushes are same as the GTI.
