« on: February 27, 2019, 05:45:48 pm »
Hi

Does anyone know of a good or awesome specialist near newmarket Suffolk?

If they are offer great alignment and suspension skills that’s even better as I’d like to do a full refresh.

Thanks

I had a full 4 wheel alignment (Hunter) at Cooper Barnes in Linton last weekend.

Having tried a couple of the franchised places around Cambridge with poor results in the past, I was impressed with these guys. It took them two attempts to get it 100% spot on as after the first the steering was ever so slightly (3-4°) off even though it tracked nice and straight. They weren't happy until I was and had me back a couple days later to sort it. The managing director even got stuck in, explaining the whole process to me, inviting me to have a look at what they were up to. Being a body shop I assume they have a fair bit of experience setting up suspension from scratch.

Prices were reasonable too; £25+vat for and initial check then £25+vat per adjustment up to a maximum total cost of £100+vat. All before/after print outs provided.

They were very quick responding to emails for me, got to be worth an ask  :happy2:

p.s. For general work on the car I use German Tech Cars on Clifton road in Cambridge. Again a great bunch with a couple mechanics who really know their way around VWs. Their labour charges are on the higher side, but their knowledge seems worth paying for and a few times over the years they've been happy to spend not inconsiderable amounts time with me listing for a creak or rattle, off the books.

Else I try to save jobs up for one big hit at service time each year and just make the journey to R-Tech in Nuneaton.

Also heard good things about Gem Tech in somersham, but never actually been to them.

Well I can tell you there is bugger all in Bury St Edmunds and Ipswich, not sure about Cambridge.  AKS Tuning are only an hour from Newmarket and very highly regarded.  No alignment rig though unfortunately, but I think they take it down the road somewhere.

Thanks all, have you tried gorse motors as they have four wheel alignment there and appear to have good ratings for Vw and aftermarket fitting?

They didn't until recently. I had my wheels aligned at AKS last time I was there. Didn't need to go to TT Shop this time around.

I was there last year and the year before.  Can't say I noticed an alignment rig!  I asked Alex if he does alignments and he said no.  Strange!

:chicken:
Either I’m mistaken and the car got taken to TT Shop or they have the alignment kit. I go every June and December for servicing.
