After changing the coding you will be best to delete the current pairing and re-pairing the unit to the phone.

Let me know how it goes.

Straight swap, the extra buttons by the interior lights no longer work but that's not big deal  :happy2:

Hi Steve!

I've been trawling the Internet for hours trying to find someone that might have swapped out an rSAP for an HFP bluetooth module in a Mk6 and I'm glad to have finally found someone that has done so, successfully!

I don't know what the spec of your Mk6 is, but apart from the buttons at the interior lights not working, can you confirm if you have an RCD/RNS-510 working with it, and of course the MFSW buttons? Did you have to code the module before use, and if so what code did you end up using? From what I can make out, it's something like 0010422, but I'm seeing so many number banded about I'm confused as to what my Aug/Sept 2009 Mk6 build would need?

My dealer isn't being very helpful about the possibility of swapping the modules out, or indeed getting a 729 E. Do you have advice on where best to get one of these modules in the UK, preferably pre-coded as I don't fancy the cost of a VAG-COM cable at the moment?

Yes I have the 729E fully working with the cluster display, multi-function steering wheel and touch interface on the RNS-510. I am at work at present so can't confirm what coding. My car is an Aug 2009 Mk6 GTI.

I may be able to get hold of a 729E module if your interested?

Where abouts are you based as I can help code it if required?

I've just checked, and my build was the last week in August 2009, so I'm guessing everything, even software levels, will be the same between our cars so seems a safe bet that it would work (subject to coding of course)!

I was considering the Fiscon kit, but been put off by the separate microphone (and therefore loss of the excellent quality I seem to get from the VW OEM mic), coding (again), and the general disruption of fitting it when a VW OEM would do fine and, as you've proven, is just a case of swapping the boxes which means I could swap back to the rSAP kit if required within minutes.

As I seem to have been completely brain-washed by Apple, I think I'll need to get rid of my ideas of returning to an rSAP compatible handset and just make the change to the kit.

So yes, I'd be interested if you could get hold of a 729E for me.

I'm based in Bristol although sometimes in Scotland... which no doubt means you're based in the far South East corner of the UK I'm guessing! LOL

Does it actually require specifically coding within my car (other than to get it done and make sure it works okay in a oner)? Because I have the rSAP kit already I was guessing the rest of the components (gateway/MFSW controller) were already set correctly and it'd just be a case of setting a code which was set in the module itself rather than held in the car's systems?

(P.S. I can't PM you as I'm a new member. I assume as you're an admin you can grab my email address from my profile to continue this off-line if you wanted?)

I have been using a car with the premuim kit this so upgraded my work blackberry to the an rSap compatable one and while it's a slightly better kit on in car features etc, but has serious limitations with stuff like the phone being basically disabled (so no email or texts) while connected to the car. I am very glad I swapped it over to the 729E kit.

I will drop you an email later tonight once I am home

I was thinking of removing the 730B in the meantime anyway as it's just wasting power, but I can't get the aerial cable to disconnect from the module?

Is there a trick to it? I've looked for a latch, but can't see what is locking it in or how to release it? Can you remember how you removed yours?

Also, will my removing it trigger or log any faults in the management unit when the CAN gateway doesn't get any response from the telephone module? I'm assuming the RCD-510 will turn the phone button back to a mute button or something?

I would leave it in for now as it will trigger a fault on the CAN Gateway (not visible anywhere other than via a diagnostics cable).

Ah... might be too late on that score then as I think I may have unplugged it a few months ago to get the part number off the module.

Can't remember if that was before or after my dealer updated the power supply software to fix a false triggering alarm problem. If they saw the fault code though they certainly didn't tell me anything about it.

Steve you ever heard of any one swapping out a 729B for an 729E I had someone round to check the BT on there car cos it would not connect but on the box its saying 1Z0 035 729B and on the VCDS screen module 77 its reading 729E???? :surprised:

Told him to contact the seller and get some answers, sounds like they have changed the inside to make abit of profit.  What with the B been much more sought after and more expensive.

From what I know of this Darren the person concerned bought the interface over a year ago as a 729B however as you say it appears to have a 729E inside it.  So far as I know the 729E wouldn't have been available over a year ago.  So I think it may point towards the installer myself.

Are you 100% sure it is reported as being a 729E?  It really doesn't add up does it??

Hi Stu I had to look a few times but VCDS reported a E version and the sticker on the module says B version

What I can't understand Stu is although it is an E version why its still not connecting to the phone?  I thought it would still see and connect to the phone but just wouldn't show in the red highline.

Exactly mate, a 729E if installed correctly, should work with a MK5 except for the Highline as you say.

I can't see how it can be anything other than the installer.  I don't know who it was, I think it was a company.  If the person concerned has had the unit for a year then I just can't see how it can be a 729E.
