VW premium bluetooth fitted, but bluetooth not active???
« on: February 17, 2010, 11:41:49 am »
I fitted the VW premium bluetooth yesterday and mortygttdi came round to code it up. Now the unit is coded and VCDS says it's there and there are no faults with it, but I cannot see the bluetooth when I search for it. I have tried this from 3 different phones and none can even see the car kit when I search for bluetooth devices. When I press the mute button on the steering wheel (now coded as voice control) I get a message over the speakers saying no phone connected. This obviously means the system is active, so why can't I find it?

I tried Darren's kit with my phone and it did find and connect to his, so it can't be a problem with my phone, but we spent ages trying to get it working and couldn't.

I think the problem is one of the following:
1) The unit is deffective
2) The bluetooth broadcasting is disabled and needs to be actived somehow
3) The unit is not receiving the ignition signal to tell it to go into pairing mode
4) It is not compatible with my car for some reasson (I have an old CAN gateway if that matters)

Any ideas people? I'll send a treat to whoever comes up with the winning answer  :grin:

What part number is the control unit?

As with the current premuim bluetooth (like I have in my Mk6) you pair it from the car through the highline display.

No sure on the part number.

Yes you're right, when I paied with Darren's car, we did it through the highline on his. BUT, my car does not have highline, so I don't know where else to try from. I thought I could use this setup through the RCD510, but hen I press the phone button, it just displays 'no user active' and there are no options.

Is there another way of doing the pairing when there is no highline display??

Thanks for the quick response by the way
 :happy2:

Need to know the P/No really mate.

In the 729x models there is an adaptation channel to enable/disable BT but by default it is enabled.

thanks, I'll pull it out again today and check. The unit is temporarily mounted beind the climate controls until I get the braket for under the drivers seat, so it's not a quick job getting it out t the moment!

I don't have access to my Label files at the moment and I can't see the Adapation on the RT website.  I did notice your coding seems to be wrong, RT have it as -

VW Golf/Jetta (1K) / VW Passat (3C) / VW Tiguan (5N):
0020035 = Radio
0020055 = Radio/Navigation System
VW Touareg (7L):
0020021 = Radio
0020041 = Radio/Navigation System

So at the moment you're coded for a Touareg.

Some of the adaptations can be found here -

http://wiki.ross-tech.com/index.php/VW_Passat_%283C%29_Telephone_%28Premium%29

But it might be worth having a scroll through the list when plugged into the car.

I think the issue is the wiring of the unit. I got a 'plug and play' wiring harness with the unit but I can't see anythint that resembles a 12v supply going in to it  :confused:

Does anyone know the pin assignments for the bluetooth unit itself (not the hed unit)?

If you can 'see' the BT unit with VCDS (Which you can because you've coded it) then there is power to it.

no need for the bracket, just velcro it to the mats mate  :wink:

there's no 12v exit on a custom wiring. i got a 729B skoda module fitted last week, no problems at all, 3 plugs, mic+bt box+behind radio  :happy2:

Is Darrens BT also premium?? they should be very selective regarding phones and BT versions  :stupid:

Over the top mod list ;o)

Yeah, realised that  :grin:

I have checked all the pin outs on the head unit and the bluetooth module and they are all correct, the wiring loom is fine.

We put my unit in Darren's car and paired my phone to it no problem using the highline display.
Now that my phone is paired to the device, we thought that we could just put the unit back in my car and start her up, but no  :sad1:

I can only assume that the premium bluetooth is no use without highline display. I'm about 2 steps from ripping out the lot and setting fire to the car. Nothing ever works as it should on this car so I've about had it

Garth,  Give SteveP a PM.  He fitted a skoda unit to mine with no problems, I think it was a 729 box, but he may be able to offer some advice..................

I don't have Highline either, but seems to pair very well.

Either the 729B or 729C will be ideal.
