Race against a 325i 3.0 ?
« on: March 07, 2019, 02:27:30 pm »
hi guys,

have any of you driven an 325i 3.0 petrol ( no turbos) coupe?

If so how does it compare to the mk5 gti on a stage 2?

I have been driving the 325i recently and not feeling very fast (is an auto).

Though am just thinking would leaving the 325i (2009) and going to a stage 2 mk5 gti (2008) be an upgrade or a downgrade.

These mk5's in good nick are very hard to come by.

thanks.

hi mate, I brought a 2005 325i to flip/keep (couldn't decide) the engine may have been different to the 2009 I'm not sure. I found it was nice up the top of the revs and the straight 6 sounded sick at that point too! but anything before I wasn't really thrilled, it was too norm. maybe after having turbos before is why I felt like that. But being the owner of a MK5 GTI for the second time (virtually stock) I wouldn't think twice about getting myself a 325i (non turbo anyway) a GTI on stage 2 would destroy a 325i.. all round and for all driving types.

As for the upgrade/downgrade.. I think it would come down to personal preference. If you had a micra and was going to a BM or GTI then that's clearly an upgrade.. but its more of a choice on preference with these 2 cars if you ask me. some people might say the BM is more classy.. but its what you're after I guess.

Personally... There's a reason why I own the GTI and didn't keep the BM  :happy2:

hi there,

funny thing is by selling the 3 series - i still have to add money to it if i wanted to go for a mk6.

my experience about the revs is very similar. though the 330i and 335i are completely different beasts.

the 2005 i think was 2.5 na engine and mine is a 3.0 na engine but the output is equal.

At the moment I can get a stage 2 gti mk5 at a good price so was weighing up the options.

With the bm I do have to be a bit careful though cause it is tail happy.

by the way how often do you go through tyres on your gti

Well me personally I only drive the GTI every Friday (110 miles) and haven't had to change the tyres yet since I brought it (April last year)! My last GTI I went through 4 different sets in 2 and a bit years, mixed driving and had a different commute (they was Eagle F1, Toyo proxy etc)

As you know, it mainly depends on how you drive etc. either way they cant be as expensive as the BM lol

sell the BM and get one mate! you wont regret it. Orrr save the extra and get a MK6 (virtually same car.. so look at budget and take your pick)

By the way cause you mentioned you have had a stock one.

What mods have you done to this one and has it made a massive difference?

thanks.

So.....325i has a 3.0 engine, and 335i has a 3.0 engine.  WTF BMW?

Toyota Supra? Yeah that'll be a 3.0 BMW engine.
BMW Z4? Yeah that'll be a 3.0 BMW engine.
535d? Yeah that'll be a 3.0 BMW engine.

Do BMW make any other size of engine?

Think the 335i has a twin turbo aswell pushing something like 380bhp after mapping.

The 116d 2.0 is the same engine I think as the 118d 120d etc.

But the 4-stroke engines aren't much good imo. the 6-stroke ones are pretty good both petrol and diesel. (325d is the same as the 330d just detuned).

My first one was completely stock and run like a dream! Low mileage etc
The one I have now has been mapped as I recently discovered but I got a couple of issue atm and still diagnosing but when it was running good it run goood! And better than standard! Only has an induction kit, back box delete and a pcv delete (previous owner mods) at the moment it feels stock tho lol those mods wouldn’t have made hardly any difference to the map. But look and sound better I guess.

Massive difference when mapping any car, many people on here will confirm a day and night difference when these have been mapped.
