Every week where I live it's the same..... hoards of supermarket morons blocking the road at Tesco because of their must have 'Friday fill up' 

You'd think Tesco would've learned this when building new forecourts but it appears not. That's why I go late at night or very early in the morning :D

I've never bothered to read the sticker on the inside of the fuel filler flap until I saw this thread. I just assumed it said use 95.

I only ever fill up with Shell V Power (99RON). Use it for my other car as well.

It is a brand I trust and the quality of its additives and detergents has never been questioned (unlike tesco fuel). Worth paying a few pounds more that may pay dividends down the road. We are driving cars that are getting old. My Golf is 13 years old. My 911 is 16 years old. So every bit helps - mechanical sympathy, warming the engine before hoofing it, decent oil, decent petrol etc etc - will all help keep the car in good condition.

Nothing wrong with Momentum 99. I've used it for years, noticed no difference in terms of timing correction on my Leon. Was previously a regular user of V-Power until my local store closed and the only store within a reasonable distance is a Motorway services

@Dan_FR is right, Costco super unleaded is now 97 Ron. They must have switched supplier at some point.

The trouble is, a lot of Supermarkets were built in the 80s/90s and coped OK with 80s/90s traffic......but not anymore.  Way too many people on this little rock.   The amount of fuel people waste queuing up at supermarkets would balance out just driving to a much quieter Shell or BP

I worked it out once and the difference over 55 litres of Tesco 99 versus V Power was only a few quid where I live.  Certainly not a difference worth being in a zombie queue over, but tight people will be tight.

I've used Shell Optimax and V power for bloody years.  On my old port injected engines, it definitely kept everything inside pretty spotless.  Can't say the same for direct injection obviously but it is a consistently good fuel.  Esso and BP 97 are also good, consistent fuels.  Consistency is the key.  I always found supermarket fuel to be patchy in quality.  I always knew straight away as the engine would develop a lumpy idle where it was previously smooth on Shell.

I used to be mates with someone who was into his cars and worked in a lab at a refinery. He said he'd never put supermarket fuel in his cars. I can't remember the reason though so this is a fairly pointless post but hey, I'm at work.

Supermarkets tend to buy from the cheapest supplier, so you don't know what you're getting from one week to the next.  Whereas Shell, BP, Esso etc is always the same.....or so I've heard.

Remember the Morrison's petrol issue from 2006 ish?  It was contaminated with silicon and Morrisons ended up paying for 1000s of lambda sensors to be replaced     Yeah, ever since then.....I've steered well clear of Supermarket fuel, unless there was no other choice.

I run mine on a mix of Tesco 99 and Vpower... probably use Tesco 99 about 80% of the time. No running issues at all, seems happy on both.
