Castle Combe - Spring Action Day 24th April
« on: February 18, 2010, 07:38:37 am »
Went to this last year and it was very busy with a huge variety of cars in the pits and on track.  :happy2:

Hmm - Greelight won't insure Coombe, but I really want to drive it.

Wonder if in light of me doing so many TDs and not (touches wood) bending it so far, they'd make an exception?

I'm with Greenlight too. Great insurer but I wish they were more track-friendly.

I've been a passenger around The Coombe lots of times and used to Flag Marshall there in my youth in the days of 1,500cc original Mini's and Ferrari 250LM's, GTO's etc etc, but have never driven it.

Although enjoyable I found Castle Combe to be a little repetitive as the chicane's are almost identicle. Still enjoyable and I will try and do it again later this year!

To be fair, this is the only track in the UK they won't touch - and with good reason, as Gill said, it's absolute carnage!!

Lovely track with great history as you say though, I'll see what can be done. Even if it's just a passenger ride.
Sideways yo!

Mike,

I wouldn't recommend doing that event. Too many variables and nutters with bangers who think it's funny to ruin other peoples day. If you really want to do combe there's a private day on Friday 16th April. It's £170 for full day tho

That's a better option but date unconfirmed yet and tends to be in July. Be perfect for your super sticky cup tyres tho!

I believe the day is run by Castle Combe not Autometrix like the VAG specific ones.

The one we went to last year was July 24th which is provisional at the moment and Audi Driver International on 9th October.

@Robin : Id give me right arm for Greenlight to be able to quote my postcode right now.
They are one of,if not the best for track cover...
as tony says they cover almost anything else, I dont think they can be much more 'track friendly' if they tried!

alas tho, for me I have to  go elsewhere which doesnt cover ANY track days.If you can consider yourself lucky  :happy2:

....I wasn't really meaning that Greenlight were track-unfriendly but was only wishing they would include more like The Cooombe and Nordschleife. But I understand how insurance brokers work and the potential risks and financial hits for them are much higher at those circuits. It's just statistics driven.

I know, I am a lucky son of a gun. It's especially a bummer for you because I know how much you enjoy trackdays.
