Milltek and MOT...
« on: February 18, 2010, 08:20:26 am »
Hi Guys,

Went for my MOT last night, it Passed, not without having to test and retest the emissions! I was constantly asked if I was sure there was a Cat there!

Anyone else had this issue?

Regards,
Tom

Mine's a Milly TBE Non-Res and has been through 2 MOT's successfully and also has been emissions tested at Milltek's factory.

I know that Milltek take great care that their road-use systems pass MOT/emissions tests. Of course if you alter it, it isn't their responsibility.

Dont know how much warming the Cat up helps but I had to sit there for a couple of minutes to get the car to pass...

The car should be tested at normal operating temp of the car, not from cold.

Have you checked your Catalyst?

If you don't already know, stick her up in the air and bang her box with the side of your fist - You shouldn't hear any rattling which would indicate melting and ongoing deterioration leading to failure.

Hmm...I'll have a look into it!

I'm not saying that your emissions question and the state of your Catalyst are directly related - I don't know enough of the technicalities - but it's worth periodically checking (punching) your Cat box anyway, especially on a tuned car which can run things hotter.

Kick the cat! Meeeeeooooow!

Didn't know you were into fisting RR. Then again I should have guessed!

The GTI isn't just a machine. It's very much a living, breathing thing.
