Rear brake upgrades

(1/1)

colesey:
For those of you who have already upgraded their front brakes, how significant do you find subsequent upgrades to the rear are for better braking? I’m pretty much maxxed out at the front for stock calipers (endless mx72 pads / bronze caliper bushes / steel hoses / mtec C hook discs / ATE ‘blue’) and wondered if it is worth using the same endless pads at the rear.

pudding:
I suppose you would be getting into the bigger piston area softening the pedal feel scenario.  Bigger discs with the stock calipers would be better, imo, rather than MK5 rear calipers.  Not necessary on a FWD MK5 anyway, just bung the endless pads in the back to compliment the fronts.  The only reason S3/R32 got bigger rear brakes was because of overall vehicle weight + more weight over the back wheels.  FWD doesn't have that to contend with.

MK7 R fronts with stock rears feels absolutely spot on for a road car.

terrier:
I have a set of TRW calipers and carriers in red. Just need brake lines and pads. Overkill I think, but all 4 pieces cost less than 150  :happy2:
