What is the EVAP Emission Control System?
« on: February 19, 2010, 03:19:13 pm »
Following on from my boost leak thread, I think I have identified the boost leak as a failed diverter valve. I now have a new valve to replace the old one, which should clear one fault.

The other fault code I have is this one:
001089 - EVAP Emission Control Sys: Incorrect Flow
               P0441 - 002 - Lower Limit Exceeded - MIL ON
             Freeze Frame:
                    Fault Status: 11100010
                    Fault Priority: 0
                    Fault Frequency: 15
                    Mileage: 101064 km
                    Time Indication: 0
                    Date: 2000.00.00
                    Time: 13:39:07

             Freeze Frame:
                    RPM: 827 /min
                    Load: 21.6 %
                    Speed: 0.0 km/h
                    Temperature: 72.0°C
                    Temperature: 12.0°C
                    Absolute Pres.: 1000.0 mbar
                    Voltage: 14.224 V

Ross-tech explain it here:
http://wiki.ross-tech.com/index.php/16825/P0441/001089

But what is this system and where do I start looking?

Could this be caused by the boost leak from faulty diverter valve? This error I have had for a while but the boost leak is a recent one.

I don't really know where to start with this one.

Bring back the good old days. I remember rebuilding my sisters Punto engine after the cylinder head went and I pulled out every single component from the head and completely rebuilt it, re-grinding the valves and everything. I miss those days.... It's all bloody electronics now  :sad1:

I'm not familiar with all the Ross/VCDS codes etc but can tell you that a failed DV (Diverter Valve) would create a boost leak. The earlier GTI's were quite prone to ripping the plastic diaphram on the oem DV if the car was tuned. A very random fault but lost of cases.

VW/VAG revised the DV lost of times and although mine didn't rip I got a Forge DV as a precautionary measure.

I understand that the current VAG DV is up to the job but someone else will have to confirm this.

Thanks for teh replay mate, but I have actually already established that part

I have a new dv to replace the old one as the is what is causing the boost leak. Its the other fault (that is longer running) that I now need to solve  :happy2:

i think you need to check your PCV diaphram situated on the camcover, a good replacement is the BSH pcv fix W/O catch can,  :happy2:

Over the top mod list ;o)

That fault is nothing to do with the DV or the PCV

I have had it a couple of times (including with the BSH catch can)

It is a random fault and according to Skoda it's to do with the Charcoal canister.

IIRC they wanted some stupid amount to replace the canister and i said ram it as the car drives normally and it's not a constant fault.

If you are getting it permanently i would take it VW and get them to tell you exactly what it is that is wrong.

I have had this randomly and it clears usually, i have seen it on two other cars also, non of these have any problems with power etc etc, so i would be tempted to leave it, if you must do it then its a canister change along with some of the pipework and a small valve iirc

....Plastic = a synthetic material made from a wide range of organic polymers which can be moulded into shape while soft and then set into either a rigid or slightly elastic form.

I know , but it is made of rubber, i have one right here in front of me. Sorry RR, it wasn't meant in any other way than just a little laugh.
And i stand corrected regarding the reason for this error code  :notworthy:

No problem, Danish  :drinking:

Why do you have one right in front of you? You're not thinking of using it as a contraceptive are you?

Already tried that and VW just cleared it and sent me on my way. The car drives fine with the light on, but I don't like looking at the light!!

Same here. Thanks for the suggestion, I will probebly pull the canister and associated pipework to make sure it's all clear when I replace the dv tomorrow.

Mater does the fault put the engine light on? I know on the american tfsi's if the petrol cap is loose or faulty it can create that fault with a light though.
