Failed mot on rear door not openning.
« on: June 26, 2021, 06:13:39 pm »
Mot day. Failed on the nearside rear door not opening and a bulb :/

I knew it was intermittent but had been fine for a while. I can hear the motor but the outer handle is loose and the inside is kind of stiff. Like a cable issue. Is it just the lock mech I need?.

It’ll be the lock bud it’s a fairly common problem. The best way to get it open is to pound on the outside of the door need the lock while someone presses the unlock button and you pound and pull the handle.

In short there’s about 5 or 6 micro switches inside the lock and one of them isn’t reading right so the latch won’t unlock.

I’d wait till you’ve got the new lock in you hand before trying it as once you get that door open don’t close it till you’ve replaced it as some can be a bugger to get open.

It’s been a few years since I was a tester but I didn’t think one rear door not opening was a fail as you can get to the seat belts etc from the other side. Again not sure if the rules have changed

I know the tester, we use them in work. He's fair but strict. Of all the days it decides to play up :(.

Do notice that sometimes when you pull the handle you sometimes get like like a click then pull again. If that makes any sense.

I'm useless with mechanics but it was ok to do, had a mates help too.
The mistake I made the other week was putting the handle back in before putting the small torx screw in the door skin that goes behind the handle. That was a right pain to get the handle off the door skin yesterday.... :rolleye:
I found getting the front door skin off easier than the rear, think there's a couple of harder to get to torx screws on the rear door but follow the youtube vids and you'll be fine mate.

Update. If you pull th handle out a touch then pull with a little more force, not much. It opens every time. I think its a cable issue.

Maybe the end of the cable connector has slipped down the door handle? It's got grooves cut into the end black plastic part and slots into the door handle.

Hope you get the cable sorted. Had rear door issues on my mkiv three times. Started with intermittent failures of trying to open the rear doors. Each time was failure of the door lock which was deadlocking on.

Not cheap! At least you can get it open from the inside to get to the door mechanisms?

Hope the cable sorts it - am sure it is cheaper than a door lock!

I'd be tempted to take off the door handle and re attach the cable end to the handle groove. Easy job. I recon its slipped down the groves on the hane side end

Yeah will give it a blast tomorrow mate. Looked at the other handles and the tab is definitely viable etc.
