Do I need VCDS to put out the following warning lights?
« on: February 20, 2010, 07:03:20 pm »
I managed to run the battery flat today after leaving everything on with no engine running then when I tried to start the car, it really struggled and barely turned over. It did fire (JUST!) and runs fine now, but the following warning lights lit up after it started:
ESP
Tyre pressue
Power steering

I've checked all the fuses and they seem ok. The power steering does work so I'm guessing that the systems work and that have faults logged that need clearing.

Will disconnecting the battery clear these? Or will driving without a fault clear them after a period of time?

I really don't want to drag mortygttdi out yet again to clear these with VCDS

Well, considering that I have had it in for months now without issue and I have had the ignition and lights on for most of the last 2 days without the engine on... YES, I'm sure

I would disconnect the battery and put it on charge overnight.

Someone here will put me right but most of the electrics are voltage dependant.

As for the warning lights, they do come on when the battery is disconnected. As per above you only need to drive a very short distance for them to go out.

Any probs of if you want to check for errors on the vcds let me know. You are only a stones throw away

Plus an excellent forum for knowledge and new ways to deplete the bank account.
Thank You Everyone.

My battery charger is up in Newcastle, so that's out for the time being. I haven't diconnected the battery yet so we'll see what happens when I drive it tomorrow.
Thanks for the offer mate, that's good of you  :happy2:

Pretty standard is this. One full lock to the right, one to the left, drive in a straight line and all cleared. These 3 systems are linked to the steering angle and rolling radius, that's why they've come on.

I have 2 Optimates in the garage, mounted on the wall.  One for the bike, and one for the car.  As CT, mine is plugged in for the majority of the time.
