Couple of questions
« on: February 20, 2010, 10:23:07 pm »
Good evening.

Well today i put down a deposit on a 06 black mk5 gti. Just a couple of questions though. The exhaust pipe are a bit sooty etc, now can i paint these black, if so what would i use. Or could i get chrome trims to go over them? Also is there any adjustment in the tailgate, i only ask because the n/s/r inner lamp unit doesnt quite line up with the n/s/r outer light unit by a couple of mm, its not a big issue at all, but just wanted to know if this could be adjusted. Finally all going well i pick up the car saturday, im intrested in an ed 30 front splitter. Does anyone know how much i would be looking at?

Mine also had sooty tail pipes, but after a couple hours cleaning a polishing with autosol i got them up pretty shiney.
Dont think you can cover them with a exhaust trim and as for painting them black tbh i wouldnt.
Are you anywhere near south yorkshire?

The problem with the designated driver program, it's not a desirable job. But if you ever get sucked into doing it, have fun with it. At the end of the night, drop them off at the wrong house.

With the tail lights being out of line are you sure it hasn't had any rear damage?

I checked over the car and could find no signs of any damaged to the rear at all.  No signs of rear floor pan damage etc. No mate, im from the bristol area :happy2: Here is a link to the car http://www.volkswagen.co.uk/retailers/00464/used-cars. If yo go to page 4 and select the black mkv golf gti and have a look at the pic of the rear of the car. The light units in question are the n/s/r ones. Could someone please take a look and let me know if im just being stupid

There's a bit of adjustment on the rear bumper and also the rear lights can be moved a little before being tightened. Interestingly, I tried another members lights and they didn't sit right at all, wheres mine do. Strange one given that they were the same

It is possible to slightly adjust the lights a few mil. you need a short ten mil spanner, its pretty easy to be honest. Slacken them off them hold them in the position you want while tightening.  :happy2:

Its the actual boot that is out of line.  :chicken:

I would get the RAC to inspect it for crash damage or just walk away there are plenty of black GTI's to be had out there. Be patient.

The problem is, ive put £500 deposit down on the car. I am going to ring them up and see if they can sort it. If they cant, how likely is it to get my £500 back? Is there actually any adjustment in the tailgate at all? I assume there must me so that a body shop can alighn the boot up correcty. I know its only 2mm or so, but im fussy as hell and if i can do it myself, then its all good.

if you kick up enough fuss you will get it back. end of the day there is a valid reason for not wanting the car now. threaten them with small claims court if they still refuse and they will give in.

It looks the boot is out of line from the left and not the light, might just need a few screws tightening on the left.
