Main thermostat lower qr joint.
« on: May 14, 2023, 11:07:39 am »
So what started as a couple of hours has now rolled into its 5th hour of swearing. Amazon has dropped off my new triple square set ( never lend tools out, god knows where my old set went) and I have everything off the stat apart from the bottom connection. Supposedly a quick release it has proved to be anything but. I am very open to any tips or suggestions on getting it off. Next step is drop the whole lot out and get it on the bench, but thought I'd ask incase it's something daft I am missing. Thanks all

Good news.

Honestly, I like doing my own work a lot of the time, but I would never do a thermostat again...

I was 50/50 before i started it, but i would 100% recommend anyone even thinking of it to get it done at a garage..i haven't been this bruised in years and i am a mountain biker and rugby player too. Plus i lost the little bolt off the back of the alternator on the gravel drive...utter pig. Neighbours must think i'm mad waving a magnet all over the place trying to find it! Getting the alternator out was enough of a job, had to smash off the top of the old stat housing to get enough to pull the hose off, then the bottom q/r wouldn't come out, then it didn't want to go back in...wow i think i'm mentally and physically damaged forever by this! Zammo says don't do drugs, Clarky says don't do stats.

Yep, pretty much mirrored my experience when I did mine.
