One of the many common problems on the mk5 gti I’m afraid. Which turbo pipe are you referring to? The one entering the intercooler?

Yep.  Only way to fix it is to replace both the rigid and flexible pipes.  They just wear out from all the engine movement, the rigid one especially.

If you mean number 6 in this: https://www.vwpartscenter.net/v-2007-volkswagen-gti--base--2-0l-l4-gas/cooling-system--intercooler ...there are two on the turbo outlet.

...then this is the part needed most likely: https://www.ecstuning.com/b-genuine-volkswagen-audi-parts/boost-hose-seal-priced-each/3c0145117b/?gclid=Cj0KCQjwrdjnBRDXARIsAEcE5YlOb4B5JHqZvEkjeTyuvzup_GJ8dV6liUqhaLwAc-KQoprkZCuA2JEaAteyEALw_wcB ...and there is one on the fmic outlet.

If leaking where those tubes connect...usually a new seal works.

I have this on my ED30. Is it worth swapping to an S3 intercooler and the pipes that come with that?
Can someone point me in the right direction as to which pipes I need to buy?
Running an APR stage 1 and Miltek cat back.

Thanks

Jon

I don’t think it would hurt to upgrade to the s3 cooler Jon. You are after all running more power than that car. The clamped hose fittings will be more secure though you can convert your existing hoses to fit the s3 cooler by carefully removing the metal ends.

That decision is really up to you. The S3 does clamp at the tube/hose to fmic connection, but still utilizes the oem connections and seal at the other end of those tubes/hoses. I would just replace the seals and see if they last to your satisfaction before deciding. I have the S3 and I've had to replace the seal at the turbo outlet pipe connection once in 90k+ miles.

This is mine with a DIY modded outlet pipe and with S3 & Forge twin cooler hose...mine still needs to be clamped to the oem style adapter:

Im intrigued because I have the same issue on my Edition 30 and when I look on ETKA online it shows both seals as being different Part Numbers/sizes, even on the normal GTi yet that diagram suggests they are the same?

The three for the hoses at both sides of the fmic should be the same. I think the one that is smaller is up at the turbo outlet. The pipe at the right ↓ of course  :happy2:

Is there a better aftermarket intercooler that fits in the standard slot and allows a good hard pipe configuration?
I have done a search but I'm a bit baffled by twin coolers and airtecs etc
Cheers

The S3 has hard and cast ports. There are other oem location replacements with the same capability. But if wanting to switch to hose-clamps all along the boost pipe system...you'll also need to replace the turbo outlet and pipe. The fmic to throttle inlet pipe is a clamp-on end for the fmic hose at that side.
