Oil pump advice (near Oxford)
« on: June 18, 2019, 03:02:37 pm »
I have a 55 plate Mk5 GTi

Last time I had it in for a service, the garage advised that it rattles/shudders when warm in a manner which concerns them. Having eliminated the timing belt as the cause, they reckon it must be the oil pump/balance shafts and advised that because of the car's age and condition, and the part costing £1200, they would not recommend spending the money to repair it.

I don't want to throw good money after bad, but I'd quite like to keep the car on the road another couple of years before replacing it.

(a) Any thoughts/advice?
(b) Anyone know a garage near Oxford which would be willing to fit a second hand oil pump etc off eBay without charging silly money? Obviously the labour to take the engine apart down to that level is significant, but hoping a second hand part would bring the cost down below the book value of the car!
2005 Mk5, 3 door, tornado red (naturally)

I'd get a second opinion from a VW specialist before making any decisions.

i paid £400 for a second pump in october last year

was tempted by the delete kit, but opted against it in the end

paid abt £800 for labour which included stripping the engine....my timing chain had jumped a couple of teeth after my oil pump failed
