Is this a wheel bearing gone?
« on: February 24, 2010, 08:34:25 am »
Basically i seem to have a problem with the car.

When driving along say from about 50mph onwards there is a low constant droning noise which i think is a wheel bearing.

I can't seem to locate where it is so am going to get it checked out by the garage but just wondering if thats what it was.

It has only just started, well about half way up north after JKM on saturday,

I made sure it wasn't the engine by dipping the clutch etc.

It only seems noticeable over 50mph.

Any idea roughly how much it would be to get done at a dealer and is this covered under warranty? I have until the 25th March left on the warranty so if it can be done under that i'd like to get it done that way

Cheers folks

Carl :happy2:

It certainly sounds like it.  Happened to mine 18 months ago.  For me it was the rear drivers side bearing and it was fixed under warranty at just 28k.  Happened above 45mph on mine - My garage tried to suggest it was the tyres but they let me put some ed30 wheels on the back to confirm it was still there

as winrya suggests not uncommon.

first off Id rotate or get some tyres to try
it could also be a CV joint on the way out (but if its humming you should also hear it knock when turning on full lock)

either way should all be covered under warranty  :happy2:

happened on my ed30 at 30k miles and 2 years, yes was covered by warranty. I crapped myself as have run a superchips on the ed30 since new and thought I had toasted the bearings in the gbox (gentle drone, but noticeable above about 50) and was up for a big bill, but no a rear wheel bearing, all fixed for nowt with a nice clean and valet at the same time  :happy2:
