Oil leak... pics inside
« on: August 17, 2019, 09:00:54 pm »
Anyone had an oil leak in this area? pressure washed the engine bay to try see where it’s coming from but I don’t have a clue at the moment..

It’s pretty bad too. Just after some input from other people before I start pulling it apart tomorrow.

Sorry for the poor quality pics.. the bottom intecooler pipe it’s covered in oil as you can see on the last pic. It’s even got on the fans.
Seems to have gotten worse since cleaning. Either that or the oil that was already there was doing a good job of hiding how bad it is.

Unless it's blasting out of a burst PCV hose, a ruptured primary oil separator (part of the oil filter housing), or a split oil cooler seal as above...... I would check the vacuum pump seal.  Quite common for that to leak as the O ring is slightly too small and doesn't 'squish' much.  VW spec'd the wrong one, imo.

Dry the whole area off with brake cleaner and try and monitor where it's coming from.  It should be fairly easy to spot as it looks like it's spraying out quite a lot!

Are you sure its oil and not coolant as that can be quite oily in nature.
