What to do? Keys stolen

So over the weekend the keys to my car were stolen  and I am unsure exactly how to go about securing the car...

I have the spare key so I can use the car myself, but the main concern - obviously - is that someone out there has the other key and could also access the vehicle. How would you go about sorting this?

As a temporary measure, I have removed Fuse 1 from the fuse box by the drivers door which seems to prevent the engine from running (it will start, but konk out after 2 secs) - not sure what the fuse is for but it's removal seems to have the desired effect for this purpose 

I've got quotes to replace locks at 250 + VAT and replacement key circa 200 + VAT, so to have everything changed over is going to cost a fair bit. Though, I am wondering if the car could somehow be programmed to reject the stolen key and I can carry on using the one I have in my possession?

Apologies if this is a stupid question, I've never had this issue before and the stuff I am reading online about key coding etc etc is quite confusing.

An auto locksmith will be able to remove the stolen key from the immobiliser list, they are individually coded to the car. The stolen key will still unlock the car but wont start it.

You not have fully comp insurance? Check your policy, you may have something called "Keycare" which covers exactly this scenario.

Thank you - I’m going to get this done (quoted £45 for it which seems pretty good to me, and a new key for £160)

If it were me, I would change the lock barrels in the door and ignition, and the key.  As Reese said in Aliens: ".....it's the only way to be sure...." 

If the stolen keyfob is used, they're not going anywhere with the car as the key won't physically won't fit in the ignition barrel!  Neither barrel is particularly hard to replace but obviously a new key will cost a fair chunk.  Last time I got one from VW is £200 all in with coding to the car (immobiliser bit).

In the end I just got a replacement key and the stolen one deleted from the immobiliser list for £190 inc VAT. Pretty happy with that. Besides, I'm a broke student at the moment so a full lock and key replacement was out of the question...

£190 has been charged by a locksmith or the dealer because i also have get a new key from locksmith fulham store and they charged me less than shared above.

Hi, it seems to me there is an opportunity to reprogram your key and write new firmware to it. The same actions must be done with your car in order for it to recognize your key, however, I am not entirely sure that the stolen key after that will not be able to open your car remotely. Sigralization is set up differently and most likely it will not help. It is best to use the services of an experienced locksmith in order to replace the lock and keys without damaging the car and also replace the car's firmware with a new key. Thus, you will be sure about the safety of your car.
