DSG conversion

Has anyone done one recently?  Just looking at rough estimates for cost. 

I've got an old Helix clutch in at the moment (pre billet pressure plate model) and the pedal and gear selection are getting progressively worse, especially when hot.  My DMF is also fooked.  So I'm into 4 figures to replace all that.

I'm thinking that £1000 ish could be put towards a DSG change over and not have to piss around with stupid clutches ever again.

Off the top of my head, required parts are:

DSG box, ECU, associated ancillaries and harnesses.
DSG brake pedal and possibly throttle pedal (for the kick down?)
Paddles and harness
Gear lever and harness

Anything else?

I might get AKS to do it as I don't have the facilities to take the engine out (need to change the brake servo as well, so may as just hoik the whole lot out).

Funny I have been thinking about this myself,  I just can't be doing with the manual box anymore. Are the driveshafts the same?

You’d probably want to add a new clutch pack to the list too pud. Especially if you pick up an earlier DSG box. Didn’t they revise the clutch packs down the line as the earlier ones would fail. (Sure there was a TSB for it all too)
Sounds like your list is about there tho. No doubt something else will creep up and tag onto it, nothings ever straight forward is it lol.

He sure did. As such, he needed a new steering wheel with paddles and I was fortunate enough to buy his existing Mk6 GTI multi function steering wheel for my manual car.

Not sure about the driveshafts.  I assume they're the same for all FWD.  I think it's just the 4WD with transfer box that has a shorter offside shaft?

Not sure about the cost but I'm guessing around the £2000+ mark for a professional job, inc s/h parts.

DSG boxes go for about £500-£800 depending on mileage.  Probably another £500 for the steering wheel, pedals and bits n bobs.

That's about the same cost as a Helix clutch fitted by a garage, so I think the extra ££s is worth it to ditch the manual 

Manuals with uprated clutches are just a pain in the arse in heavy traffic, which is pretty much a daily occurrence for me.  I've got RCLS big time (Ripped Clutch Leg Syndrome) and getting tired of it tbh.

Iv heard the rts smf clutches give a oem feel so you wont have the RCLS lool.
They also have alot of good reviews worth looking into

I've converted mine mk5 from 6speed manuel tp DSG6 some months back.

ECU that comes from DSG car
DSG gear shifter mechanism
DSG gear know
Brake pedal
Brake sensor
Kickdown for throttle pedal
DSG gearbox
DSG gearbox harness
some new wires added from old central harness to engine bay from CECM (Or BCM if you have converted like I did)
coolant/oil hoses along with new joint pieces
Starter engine
Flywheel

Then you need new steering electronic if you want shiftpaddles and also other steering wheel with paddles of curse.

Also depending what your your car is and which year your DSG box is you might need other drive shafts for front wheels

I did get my dsg box flushed, new clutch pack, new oil, checked the mechatronic , new starter motor, new flywheel upon the conversion since all was taken apart anyway :)

Mechanically it's an easy conversion, but is there any coding needed for the engine ECU and steering wheel stuff?  Is it just as simple as wiring it all up and off you go?

Yes - your engine ECU most come from DSG born car.

It has the option to be coded to DSG if the ECU is from manuel born car, but it miss the dataset in the ECU for dsg.

So here you'll have to source out from a DSG car :)

It's wierd, since you can go from DSG ecu to manuel car without problems... Also if you're adding paddleshifts to your steerin wheel you might need other steering electronics. Here I would go with index "CH" and then also change the CC stalk to index "G"

this will future proof for any other retrofits you may consider  :)

@Pudding normally I would send you a private message but I can't, so: did you manage to do anything with the DSG conversion?  Or did you change your mind?

I am in the same boat, looking to replace my 2nd failed DMF with a SMF kit and I just found out that doing a DSG conversion might cost the same.
