Open each door in turn and make sure the internal lights come on. This will check the switches in the door module are working correctly.

On my wife car (New Beetle) it's gone off due to low battery voltage as well.

yes, check battery connections and voltage of the battery. if not connected tight enough or voltage is low.. this can cause the alarm to trigger.

as Neil said too.. check the doors are registering as closed (lights go off when shut) and a rare one.. but make sure windows are all the way up.

The alarm unit has it's own backup battery, it is this that fails when it leaks electrolyte over the PCB causing the electronics to do all sorts of weird things - my alarm went off as I was driving!

I sourced a used newer one from eBay, it came off a 2011 Audi A1.
