Water leak into boot
« on: April 01, 2013, 08:51:40 pm »
Hi

I wonder if anyone can help, I have had a bit of a water leak into the boot which has made the boot carpet go a bit smelly.

I have been trying to locate its source but I'm struggling. I thought it might be the boot seal/rubber so I enquired at VW who politely said that the seals very rarely fail.

Has anyone on here had anything similar happen to them?

It's a standard 1.9tdi 5 door on a 54plate.

Thanks

Had a leak in mine that I traced to the rubber umbilical thing that goes between the body and rear hatch not seated properly in the body so letting water get in and trickle down into the boot.

Yes,

Mine leaked and used to gather about 2 cup fulls of water in the spare wheel compartment after heavy rain. To find the leak I set up a 'tissue trap' inside the boot then poured water from a watering can onto different parts of the boot/ roof etc to see where it came in.

Ultimately it was traced to there being a gap/ perish in the rubber boot seal. I could basically shove my finger through the hole in the rubber seal. I think VW charged me about £65 for a new one? I can have a look for the invoice for you if you like?

Here's a copy of the invoice. I always liked it as it mentioned my dodgy duck tape solution...

Hi guys,

I suspect I'm getting water in the boot through a potentially perished rubber wiring gator. See below, the closest to looking like what I've got I'm afraid.

I've bought a pair from my local dealership - how easy/hard are they to replace/fit yourself?

Thanks.
