Fitting Mk7 Front/Rear Alloy hubs to Mk5 TDi

<< < (2/3) > >>

Stupots:
@Tharkhold Weirdly enough, the Mk5 Golf TDI 4Motion has an aluminium rear subframe already, but with steel hub carriers... not sure why the Mk5 R32 is the other way around with steel subframe and alloy hub carriers. I've still not got the front done yet as I want to put 345mm splash shields on when I do it (not important as the standard ones don't interfere with the larger discs, but I may as well while I'm at it) so need to order them first.

pudding:
Interesting!  In theory the R32 should have the same rear track as the FWD MK5. Could be a better option than the Passat and Scirocco rear alloy hubs as they add too much track width.

Stupots:
Bits are coming together. Still waiting on 345mm splash shields so I only have to do the job once :)

Both hub carriers are genuine VW AG, one has a FAG bearing (with VW logo) and one has NSK bearing (with VW logo). I kind of got the impression FAG is hard to beat for bearing quality. The top mounts are TTRS OEM and the top mount bearings are FAG. Wishbone/Control arms are cleaned up 2nd hand Passat items.

colesey:
If you can, think about getting some Superpro adjustable balljoints on at the same time for a bit more camber!

Stupots:
I think adjustable ball joints would be overkill for my 170bhp Diesel.

I'm mainly doing this to get unsprung weight back to what it was (following the addition of the Mk7 R Brakes) and my steel hub carriers are flakey and rusty. Trying to keep it a little bit VW OEM, but adjustable ball joints would definitely be a good option if I was going to track it. I'm planning on going 220BHP, but I only drive fast in a straight line (Dual Carriageways and Motorways).
