Over 5 years of ED30 ownership in standard and tuned trims, it's averaged 28mpg. That's a mixture of town driving, fast B roads and motorways. Everything is spot on in the VCDS logs, so it's just how they are....and my driving

My R32 delivered 26mpg very consistently, no matter how hard or gently I drove it, so a 2mpg improvement for 70 more lbft and 60 more ponies isn't bad at all.
The MK7 and 7.5 are apparently a lot better on fuel. According to a lot of owners, mid to high 30s being easily achievable as a long term average....for the GTI that is. Not sure about the R.
No one buys a GTI for mpg anyway. That's what the GTD is for
