Now its multi function
« on: February 28, 2010, 06:19:32 pm »
I would like to thank Darren (mortygttdi) for fitting both my RNS 510. Then fitting my multi function buttons to my steering wheel today after much searching on german ebay. What a difference they make after having them on my last car i missed them on this one.

After

Nice job.

Much effort to change the wheel?

Whats with your accelerator pedal?  How come its not the aluminium one?

It was a case of unclipping the airbag and replacing the blanks with the buttons two screws as the wiring was already there. The wheel is still the same. All down to Darren as i just watched.

Well spotted.I don't know it was like that when i got it. Was already thinking about changing it but i have to buy a set from stealers for £97 and then it as to be dealer fit for some reason. Which means labour costs on top. Unless anyone knows where to get one from?

If your car is a GTi then that accel pedal should have been sorted at the PDI...

Do all cars already have the wiring in place to allow you to change just the button panels?

Matt23 do you have a link to the German ebay item for the button panels?  And how do they look/work? Also I know there are two different types of buttons one older one newer set, which are these?  I have an 05 GTI....  Sorry for all the questions but seeing this has just made me ever so slightly excited!!!  :jumping:

The guy i got them off asn't anymore but this will show you the 2 sets which i found

http://shop.ebay.de/i.html?_kw=VW&_kw=GOLF&_kw=5&_kw=TASTEN&_kw=LENKRAD&_kw=GTI

I believe the lower set with the star on the left unit to be the newer ones. This is the set i got, they work on my 07 gti.

They look perfect, as if they were fitted when new. All buttons work don't know about phone button as i haven't a bluetooth kit.

If your car is a dsg you should have the wiring already there so will only need the button's. If it's manual you probably don't have the wiring. I know there are other threads on this subject so i would check them before buying.
