130k anything to be concerned about?

Hi I’m considering returning to a mk5 gti, sold my mk5 a few years ago & was always a bit gutted never to have finished what I planned for it.

Remap (niki)
So now I’ve got a chance to buy one of two 130k gtis that are local to me- but, is that 130k the near end of there lives or would there still be plenty left in there to play with & put 10-15k more miles on?
Am I mad considering that mileage?
Thoughts please.

130k is absolutely fine on these engines aslong as it has been maintained. If looking at one with higher mileage just be prepared to some preventative maintenance so you no the car is 100% for your own piece of mind.

I’ve recently bought one that’s covered the same mileage and it’s mint, lots of history but for my own piece of mind I’m going to do the following:

Replace oil pick up pipe
Replace fuel pump cam follower
I’ve just replaced the diverter valve for the latest revision

I’m gonna clean out/decks the intake valves too as it made a huge difference on ones I’ve previously done it too.

I will be replacing the cam chain and tensioner as there’s no record of it in the history but it’s had the cam belt replaced last year so I won’t have to do that.

Have a good look around the engine bay for any oil leaks, especially near the oil filter housing and around the cam chain area. A lot I went and looked at had oil leaks in those areas.

I've seen some with 180k running 350bhp, so I'm guessing as long as it's maintained with oem parts is all good

My ED30 is on 138K and been mapped most of it's life.  Still showing 14 bar compression on all cylinders, which is what they left the factory with.  The cams and cylinder head casting look brand new still when I stuck a new cam cover on last year.  Mobil 1 0W40 most of it's life.  Done every 3K.

It's been said a million times.......change the oil regularly.  10,000+ mile oil changes is what slowly kills engines.

One has full vwsh, so that’s the one that’ll interest me most, thanks for the input guys.
I know rusty wings are common on these too, as mine had that problem when I traded it.

How many miles are you doing to change your oil every 3k? I'd be changing mine every 6 weeks at the minute!

No idea, there is two at a garage near where I work so I was planning on popping in for a look, both 2006 & 130k 5 door reflex silver cars.

Well, I bought a golf- not quite a mk5 gti, I only had shed money so I had to downgrade to a MK4 V6 4Mo

They sure are. The gauze strainer can get covered in rubbish. Part is about £30 and you need a new rubber washer and I bought some Dirko sealant for refitting the sump. The vw sealant is loads more expensive.

Another newbie - thinking about buying one near me with about 110k miles, looks well maintained and full history but has been on the long life schedule.

Is this enough to rule it out? Long time between oil changes etc. Would it be any use switching it to more regular changes now?
