Playing MP3 music - how.....
« on: March 01, 2010, 09:16:45 pm »
Hi

I have my collection of MP3 music on a USB stick, and would like to play it in my 2008 GTI with RNS510 and 6 CD changer. I copied the tracks over to a CD and placed it in the CD changer, but when I select the 'Media' button it say 'no media'. Am I doing something wrong? Is there a way of geting the music onto the internal hardrive? SD card?

Cheers!

You can copy from disc or from SD card.

Have you burnt the discs properly? You have to burn at the slowest speed possible, which is why it's easier to copy from SD. Also, are you burning as a data disc? Did you close the session? Did you finalise the track?

The GTI isn't just a machine. It's very much a living, breathing thing.

The CD Changer only supports standard audio CD's, you need to insert it into the headunit in the DVD slot for it be read as a data disk to enable the copy to hard disk function  :happy2:

Ah, I see - I'll try that - will I be prompted to store on the hard drive? I have noticed that the sat nav DVD has been left in the drive - perhaps that needs copying over too?

Thanks!

The Navi DVD should have already been copied to the hdd (it asks when you insert a new navi dvd).
Simplest solution is just to save everything to an SD card - I believe that with the latest version of the RNS software you can use SD-HD cards of up to 32GB, but I haven't done this update myself as I've also heard that the latest update can drain your battery overnight if you don't have the latest CAN-gateway (my old Golf doesn't).

The other option is to get rid of the armrest CD-player - my brother's Scirocco instead has a little USB socket under the armrest and he kept a small 80GB hdd plugged in with vast amounts of music. I don't know if all the ID3 tags were displayed correctly though. You can buy this equipment from VW relatively inexpensively I think and install it yourself.

OK, thanks for everyones help with this. The maps were copied over at some point, as the sat nav works without the disc. I have also copied over my music from disc to the hard drive, and it all works a treat.

Thanks again!
