Miss fire help!
« on: January 01, 2020, 10:51:03 am »
Hi all . I’m new  to the forum. I’ve not had a golf in years so I purchased my mk 5 gti dsg. Car had done 150000 miles with most history. Now after 3 weeks it’s developed a miss fire , when driving hard it misses and engine light flashes. But once speed reduces it goes away. I changed spark plugs and then the issue has got worse ! It ticks over terrible and has epc and engine light on. I noticed  plugs 1.3.4 were denzo and all had brown markings on the tips , but no3 was a older looking ngk thus looked all crusted up? Any help would be great as I Dnt want to waste money where possible. Thanks

I think its showing typical ageing signs at that mileage. First get yourself a decent set of plugs, the BKR7EIX seems to be the most recommended. Then I would get someone to do a VCDS scan see if its coilpacks or injectors as they are usually next on the check list. Find out what the EML codes are. After that its anyones guess and would need more digging, fuelling etc. I had a similar event recently and my original plugs were OEM but did the job for 40k miles. The NGK's fixed the problem for me.  Browny Tan isn't a bad colour for a plug but like any consummable they do wear out after a lot of miles.
Stage 1 2007 Black Eddy  #1000 - VCDS Hex+Can (Novice coder). H&R springs, newish Bilstein B4's. Gen 3 Steering rack, Helix organic.  The car is *always* work in progress fixing and upgrading things.
