I should add for context that my average A road / Motorway cruising speed is 85/90mph and I'm in boost frequently. Obviously the lower the engine speed, the lower the oil consumption. BYD/CDL has different pistons and rings to a AXX though, so not sure how valid the comparison is.
As mentioned already, BMW M engines are notorious for high oil consumption with high revs/load, hence why they usually run on 10W/60! So it's not just VW engines that like a drink of the slippery stuff. And Honda VTECs also, whilst on the subject of other brands and oil! I think BMW is probably the worst brand I've ever owned for oil consumption tbh.
As a side note, the one thing TFSI engines hate is short journeys. They need frequent blasting to burn off the carbon build up and boil off any condensation from that sits in the engine on short journeys.
